One of the most misunderstood pastries that we make.
Pie dough is too simple and we tend to make things complicated.
In a medium size bowl place one stick of butter, margarine, or any shortening. (4oz)
Add 1 heaping cup of AP Flour
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
2-3 tbsp. cold water or milk
Work in the shortening into the flour mixture with a spoon, fork or masher, until we have dough. Stop!
With your fingers feel the dough; it should be firm enough to roll out with a rolling pin. If it is to wet, add a spoon of flour, if to firm add a spoon of water. Mix a few minutes until we have smooth pie dough.
This recipe will make one top or bottom, if you need a top and a bottom double the mix.
